HGSOBSC has been teaching swimming and, especially playing water polo, since it was founded in 1919. We
accept members young and old, both boys and girls, of any ability and from any background. The common
factor is a desire to swim and play better water polo.
Our formal development programme takes children from about 2 years of age, initially introducing them to, and
giving them confidence in, the water. Once this is gained, the next stage is to teach basic swimming and water
safety skills - all this in our dedicated 15metre long teaching pool.
Having acquired this, and perhaps improved their strokes and stamina, they progress to our separate 25metre
pool and a training programme designed to develop and hone their ability, until they become strong and
competitive swimmers.
We also teach the skills and techniques for them to play water polo. The initial introduction is mini polo,
gradually enhancing their abilities until they are capable of joining one of our teams which operate at the
following age restricted levels: Academy (under 14 years), Youth (under 16 years) and Junior (under 18 years).
Beyond this, members can be selected to represent the A or B teams which compete in Senior, open age
leagues.
We operate under strict ASA rules and guidelines both in the way the club is run which, naturally, includes Child
Protection. Teams play under the rules of the Midland League or Warwickshire ASA.
